Sterling "Sug" Thomas Owens, II, age 41, of Columbia, MO formerly of Hannibal, MO passed away at 6:37 am Thursday, September 17, 2020, at his brothers home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, September 25, 2020, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Visitation celebrating Sterling's life will be held 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, September 24, 2020, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Sterling was born on April 20, 1979, in Quincy, Illinois the son of Sterling and Cynthia (Courtois) Owens.
Survivors include his mother, Cynthia Owens of Golden, CO; brother, Malachi Owens, Sr. and wife Jennifer of Columbia, MO; sisters, Tricia Thompson and fiance Levi Trainum of Golden, CO; Valery Wolf of Columbia, MO; loving partner, Amanda Steele of Novinger, MO and her children, Jeremiah, Heisman, Zoe, and Zandria; nieces and nephews, Breanna Owens, Malachi Owens, Jr., Zachary Owens, Robert Dean Thompson, III, Blake Richard Thompson, Edon Eugene Thompson, Gabrielle Heflin, and Norman Myers; loving dog, "Ana"; and special family member, Fred Baugher of Golden, CO who passed away on September 21, 2020.
Sterling was preceded in death by his father, paternal grandparents, Sterling Thomas Owens, Francis McKim, step grandmother, Rose Owens, maternal grandmother, Agnus (Baugher) Conover; and niece, Stephanie Troub.
Sterling worked in the auto salvage business, he was a wheeler and dealer that always enjoyed getting a good deal and selling it for a deal. He loved going to yard sales, auctions, flea markets and pedaling in antique and vintage items. Sterling was a people pleaser and always was giving gifts to family and friends and maybe a few gag gifts along the way. Sterling enjoyed playing pool at local pool halls, playing baseball and softball in his younger years, watching sports, fishing and most recently following politics. Sterling’s biggest love was his family & friends and his dog "Ana".
Pallbearers will be Malachi Owens, Sr., Malachi Owens, Jr., Zachary Owens, Greg Polacek, Levi Trainum, and Rayne Wells.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sterling's loving family & friends, dog "Ana", and special family member, Fred Baugher.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel to assist the family with funeral expenses.
