Richard James "Jim" Rice age 85 went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 6:22 pm at Quincy Healthcare Senior Living.
Memorial services will be held Monday, October 16, 2023, at 11:00 am at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Pastor Tom Rains will officiate.
Visitation celebrating Jim's life will be held 10:00 am until time of service.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Jim was born on June 7, 1938, in Quincy, IL, the son of Dick and Mary (Wilson) Rice.
He was united in marriage to Bonnie Tucker on January 5, 1973, at Pine Lawn-Glen Echo Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO. They celebrated fifty years of marriage this year.
Survivors include wife, Bonnie of the home, children; Craig, Rodney and Rick Rice (Tracey) and Rachael Altgilbers (Rocky). Also surviving are his grandchildren; Katelyn, Mitchell, Ashton, Chelsea, Tyler, Joey, Vinnie, Danielle, Brittany, Brandon, Sarah, Adam, Levi, Junior, Lennon, Vincent, Penelope and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Barb and Beverly Rice and brother; Bruce Rice.
Jim graduated from Ferguson High School and went on to further his education at Hannibal-LaGrange College, where he graduated with an Associates Degree and then attended Washington University for one year. He went on to be Minister of Music in various churches. The last church he served in was the First Baptist Church in Ironton, MO. He also worked in retail and retired from Walmart.
Jim was friendly, outgoing and had a great sense of humor. He was known to be a very talented singer. Some simple things in life brought joy to him such as going for walks, reading and watching Cardinal games. The most cherished times were spent with his family and friends. Jim was loved by his family and will be missed.
