Friends and family of Mary Ann are invited to join the celebration at a visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service Monday at Fifth Street Baptist Church.

The family is being served by the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel of Hannibal.

Mary Ann was born November 14, 1921, in Ortonville, MN to George Edward Gardner and Gertrude Edith Lyman. She was united in marriage to Wyeth (Pete) Hamlin on September 19, 1946, in Clinton, IL who preceded her in death on June 3, 1994.

While with us, Mary Ann lived an active life full of service, travel, and sports. She attended nursing school at the University of Cincinnati where she received her BS in nursing as well as meeting her future husband. She proudly served her country as an Army Nurse during World War II, stationed in Canada and Alaska.

Mary Ann served as the President of her PEO Chapter BR, an active volunteer in the Levering Hospital and Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary as well as was an avid member of Fifth Street Baptist Church.  She was also a member of the Newcomers and Women’s Club.

In her spare time Mary Ann loved to stay active, traveling within the United States as well as abroad. She was a lover of golf and proud member of the Hole In One Club, a faithful supporter of the St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Tigers, as well as a “starter” for the Aberdeen Tartan Water Volleyball team. She always enjoyed games and played in several different Bridge groups.  Along with her competitive nature, she had a lively sense of humor, a twinkle in her eye, and kept those around her on their toes with her quick wit. She made friends wherever she was and will dearly be missed.

Mary Ann is survived by her five lovely daughters; Margo McNeil (Jim), Ann Westhoff (Rodger), Lynn Hamlin (Tom Maxwell), Sue Dorsey (Tom), Sally Geoghegan (Kevin); 14 grandchildren, Nathan McNeil (Jodi), Stuart McNeil, Megan McNeil (Antonio Vaquero), Bryan Westhoff (Jessica), Jon Westhoff (Catherine), Annie Westhoff, Julia Maxwell (Brian Clappier), Adam Maxwell (Laura), John Maxwell (Krystal), Lauren Naeve (John), Lance Dorsey (Cammie), Sarah Copple (John), Erin Geoghegan, Colin Geoghegan; 18 great-grandchildren and two more on the way; dear sisters Gertrude Parrish, Margaret Pangburn, Connie Timms.

In addition to her parent’s and husband, Mary Ann was preceded in death by a sister Georgia Thomasson and brother Keith Gardner.

Pallbearers will be Nathan McNeil, Stuart McNeil, Bryan Westhoff, Jonathan Westhoff, Adam Maxwell, John Maxwell, Lance Dorsey, Colin Geoghegan.

Memorial contributions can be made to Dr. Wyeth and Mary Ann Hamlin Memorial Scholarship at Hannibal High School, which is given to a graduating senior entering the medical field, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
