Larry Vaughn Obituary

Larry Kent Vaughn, age 72, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 12:50 am Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.  

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 7, 2020, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.  Pastor Joe Thrower will officiate.  Full Military Honors provided by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will follow the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Kinderhook Cemetery in Kinderhook, IL. 

Visitation celebrating Larry's life will be held 10:00 AM until the time of the service Friday at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. 

Family and friends are welcome to attend the visitation and services for Larry but due to Covid-19 we are asking you to follow social distancing guidelines. Please stay six feet apart and avoid close contact. Anyone in attendance is encouraged to wear a mask or other personal protective equipment.

Larry was born on June 17, 1948, in Hannibal, MO the son of Carl H. and Bonnie I. (Hoskins) Vaughn.

He was united in marriage to Jacquie Stephenson on October 18, 1975, in Hannibal, MO.  She survives him.

Other survivors include a brother, Terry C. Vaughn (Sharon) of Quincy, IL; sister, Cherie Brocaille of Hannibal, MO; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice Cohen (Sylvan) of Hannibal, MO, and Gary Stephenson and (Janine) of New London, MO; nephews, Ryan Vaughn (Tina), and Stephen Harlow; nieces, Bethany Brocaille, Tara Zeiger (Steve), Raini Raney (Brian), and Kylie Epperson (Jordan); and several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Joe Brocaille.

Larry graduated from Kinderhook High School in 1966, and went on to further their education at Northeast Missouri State University receiving a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. 

Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. 

Mr. Vaughn worked as a financial advisor for Berthel Fisher & Company Financial Services, Inc.

Larry was a faithful member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church in Oakwood where he served as a Deacon and various other capacities within the church.

Mr. Vaughn was a representative for Gideon's International, member of the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 and American Legion Riders, Bikers For Christ, and VFW Post 11041 in Palmyra, MO.

Away from work, Larry loved mentoring children at Eugene Field School in Hannibal, volunteering as a chaplin at Hannibal Regional Hospital, helping and caring for his friends and family, being the lead drummer in the rock band the T-Zers that was formed in the 60's that is still playing gigs to this date, and riding his motorcycle.

Larry's biggest love was his family, friends and God.

Pallbearers will be the American Legion Riders.

Honorary pallbearers will be Austin Krigbaum and Thomas Powers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Prince Avenue Baptist Church, Gideon's International or the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
