Larry Dan Powell, age 77, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 5:17 pm Sunday, November 6, 2022, at his home.
The family will host a memorial service at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Larry was born on October 11, 1945, in Hannibal, MO the son of James and Laura (Kilby) Powell.
He was united in marriage to Alvina Ellison on August 4, 1993, in Hannibal, MO.
Survivors included his wife, Alvina Powell of Hannibal. three step-sons, Lynn Akridge (DeDe) of MS, Danny Akridge of Hannibal, MO, Lanny Akridge of St. Louis, MO; four grandsons, Dylan Akridge (Sarah), Guage Akridge, Justin Alridge, Phillip Boatright; two granddaughters, Haley Dye (Aaron), and Jocelyn Akridge; one sister, Dorthea Flagel (Harlan) of Davenport, IA, namesake nephew, Larry Wayne Powell and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Powell was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Alberta Maple; six brothers, Henry Lloyd Powell, James Marion Powell, Robert Lee Powell, Edwin Lee Powell, Clifford Wayne Powell and Darrell Gene Powell.
Larry graduated high school and went on to honorably serve his country in the U.S. Army.
Larry worked for Diemakers Inc. for several years. After his retirement, Larry worked at Custom Transit.
One of Larry's favorite past times was building and flying remote controlled airplanes. He was also an avid fan of Nascar and enjoyed watching his favorite football team, the Minnesota Vikings. When Larry wasn't fishing, playing the guitar, or listening to Merle Haggard, you could find him watching an episode of M.A.S.H. Most of all, Larry cherished and loved his family the most.
Larry attended Standing On The Rock Church and was a proud member of the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55.
