John Clarence Glass

John Clarence Glass, age 86, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 10:30 pm Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at the University Hospital in Columbia, MO.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 18, 2021, at 3:00 at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.  Rev. Steve Barker will officiate. Full military honors will be provided by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will follow the service at the funeral home.  John's service will be live streamed on his memorial page at www.smithfuneralhomeandchapel.com.  The live stream will start a few minutes before 3:00 PM.

Visitation will be private.

Those attending the service will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing.

John was born on April 15, 1934, in Memphis, MO,  the son of Clarence Ernest and Mary Elizabeth (Clatt) Glass .

He was united in marriage to Mary S. Burns on May 24, 1956, in Lancaster, MO.

Survivors include his wife of the home; son, John William Glass and wife Mary Ann of Mt. Pleasant, IA, daughters; Rebecca Griffin of Pekin, IL and Elizabeth Ann Krieger and husband Curt of Mt. Pleasant, IA; brother, Audrey Glass and wife Betty of Memphis, MO; grandchildren; Jason, Jennifer, Joshua and Ryan; nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Glass was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Reardon and Irene Forquer.

Upon graduation, John honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Boston which was the world,s first guided missile cruiser.

John worked as a Crew Foreman for Northeast Missouri Electric Cooperative in Mt. Pleasant, IA before being transferred to Palmyra over thirty years ago.

John attended flight school in Ottumwa, IA and held an instrument, commercial, twin engine and instructors license. John was an avid outdoorsman who loved to turkey and deer hunter, fishing, gardening, flying and woodworking. John was a great story teller that never stretched the truth.  John cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John was a member of the Bloomfield, IA Christian Church.
