Jerry D. Johnson

Jerry D. Johnson, age 60, of Monroe City, MO passed away at 1:00 pm Monday, January 2, 2023, at Monroe Manor in Paris, MO.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Friday, January 6, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Monroe City.  Bro. Alex Brown and Bro. Josh Chambers will officiate. Graveside services and burial will be held 1:30 pm in the Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, IL.

Visitation celebrating Jerry's life will be held at 9:00 am until the time of the service Friday at the First Baptist Church of Monroe City. 

Jerry was born on February 13, 1962, in Quincy, IL the son of Marjorie (Ritter) Johnson.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Marjorie and Jim Runyon of Monroe City, MO;  two step-sisters, Tiffany Runyon of Clarksville, TN and  Stacy Black (Rob) of Bolivar, MO;  two aunts, Jennie and Dorothy Ann and several cousins.

Jerry previously worked at the Monroe City Sheltered Workshop.

Jerry had a very big heart and had a joy for life. He spent his time singing, playing the harmonica and memorizing different verses from the Bible and hymns.  Jerry was thrilled when he was able to go to Walt Disney World, this was his happy place.  He had visited Walt Disney World twenty-five times.  Jerry had special relationships with his cousins; Tony, Mike, Doug, Tom, Annette and Todd.  Christmas time and the birth of Christ was very special  to Jerry.  He was proud to accept Jesus as his savior at a young age.

Jerry was a member of  First Baptist Church of Monroe City. 

Pallbearers will be Tony Battles, Mike Battles, Doug Battles, Tom Fenton, Todd Hinton and Jake Fenton.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Monroe City Monroe City, in care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
