Gentry Youse, age 70, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 4:02 am Friday, May 31, 2024, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Rev. Steve Barker will officiate.
Visitation celebrating Gentry's life will be held 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Gentry was born on December 31, 1953, in Hannibal, MO the son of John and Mary Jo (Gentry) Youse.
He was united in marriage to Janet Hecht on September 11, 1976, in St. Louis, MO.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Youse of the home, son, Jeremy Youse (Sophie Youse, nee Martinkus) of Champaign, IL; daughter, Megan Youse (Jenny Preiss) of New Bloomfield, MO; two brothers, Tom Youse of Hannibal, MO and Jim Youse (Linda) of Hannibal, MO; two sisters, Mary Ann McCarty of New Jersey and Julie King (Bill) of Jackson, MO.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jeremy's daughters, Stella Youse and Halle Youse (mother Jill Harlan Pyrz), and Megan's daughters, Summit Preiss-Youse and Reddik Preiss-Youse (mother Jenny Preiss) and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gentry was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Mike McCarty.
Gentry graduated from Hannibal High School in the class of 1971 and went on to further his education at the University of Missouri-Columbia and received his bachelor’s degree in business in 1975.
Gentry was the founder and owner of Quick Stop Lube & Oil for over 3 decades before his retirement. He was well known for his performances in the band Steppin' Back and various other bands over the years. Gentry was a very talented musician who could play any musical instrument from the keyboard to the trumpet to the guitar and vocals. He was a true dog lover and especially loved the bond he had with his two dogs Stanley and Blue. Gentry was an avid bowler and enjoyed following the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues. He loved his family, his work family, his church family and his many friends. He will be missed.
Gentry was a member of First Christian Church of Hannibal where he performed in the Bell Choir.
