Gary Lee Hathaway, 62, of Philadelphia, MO passed away at 1:58 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2019, at his home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2019, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.  Pastor Lance Bonnell will officiate.  Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park.

Visitation celebrating Gary’s life will be held 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service Friday at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.

Gary was born on April 25, 1957, in Hannibal, MO the son of Robert and Margaret (Dodd) Hathaway.  He was united in marriage to Theresa “Terry”  Lawzano on February 24, 1997, in New London, MO.  She survives him.

Other survivors include his children, Reggie Hathaway and wife Denyse of Columbia, MO, Josh Hathaway and wife Megan of New London, MO, and Amanda Nelson of Hannibal, MO; grandchildren, Brett Hathaway, Serene Nelson, Slade Nelson, Jackson Hathaway, Adyson Hathaway, and Aspen Hathaway; sister Peggy Jean McCarty and husband Darrell of LaGrange, MO; niece Missy McCarty and great-niece, Bristol McCarty.

Mr. Hathaway was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary previously worked as a cook and CNA at Monroe City Manor and was an ordained minister that helped fill in at area churches when needed.

Away from work, Gary was an avid Cardinals fan, Monroe City Panthers and Palmyra Panthers football fan.

Setting on the porch sipping a nice cold Coca-Cola visiting with family and friends was something Gary cherished.  Gary’s biggest love was his family, especially his grandchildren.  Gary had a great sense of humor and loved sharing it with his children.

Mr. Hathaway was a member of Life Tabernacle Church in Canton, MO but was recently attending Hester Community Church in Maywood, MO.

Pallbearers will be Ben Nelson, Chris Avery, Rick Spurgeon, Corey Combs, Tee Bell, and Aaron Kinney.

Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great niece.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe City Manor, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
