Eugene "Gene" Sullie Burns, age 86, of rural Monroe City, MO formerly of the St. Louis area passed away at 4:45 pm Sunday, November 15, 2020, at Monroe Manor in Paris, MO.
No services are planned at this time, the family will host a memorial service at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Smith Funeral Home & Chapel of Hannibal.
Gene was born on October 26, 1934, in Rockingham, NC the son of Hughie A. and Monnie (Dawkins) Burns.
Survivors include two sons, David Burns (Kathy) of Silex, MO and Rodney Burns of Monroe City, MO; brother, Joseph Farrow Burns of Rockingham, NC; three grandsons, Jacob M. Burns (Sharon A.) of Silex, MO, Kyle S. Burns (Erin K.) of Warrenton, MO and Tyler G. Burns of Monroe City, MO. Also surviving are his two great grandchildren, Morgan M. Burns and Joseph B. Burns.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twelve siblings.
Eugene graduated from Rockingham High School in Richmond County North Carolina.
Professionally Gene worked in quality control for Wayne Wright Industries.
Gene was a very talented craftsman and fabricator. He was known for his wrought iron work, he made amazing wrought iron lights and candle holders. Fishing, gardening, watching birds, being outdoors, and barbecuing were the simple things in life Gene enjoyed. His biggest love was the time spent with his family and friends.
Gene was a Baptist by faith.
