Douglas Lance Tyler, age 59, of Kirksville, MO passed away at 12:07 pm Saturday, June 19, 2021, at his home.
The family will host a memorial service celebrating Doug's life 10:30 am Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at the Grace Covenant Baptist Church in Hannibal. Pastor Chuck Todd will officiate.
Full military honors will follow the service provided by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post 55.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Douglas was born on September 14, 1961, in Ortonville, Michigan the son of Gerald Tyler and Brenda (Daniels) Evans.
Survivors include his mother Brenda Evans of Michigan; son, Justin Tyler (Jennifer) of Hannibal, MO; son, Matthew Tyler of Frisco, TX; half-brother, Todd Tyler (Lisa); sister, Michelle Byard (Gary); five grandchildren, Nevaeh Tyler, Kloe Tyler, Kathryn Tyler, Nickolas Tyler and Camryn Tyler; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Tyler, and step-father whom raised him, Wayne Evans.
Mr. Tyler honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Gulf War. Mr. Tyler, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant, completed his military career in the Iowa Army National Guard with over 20-years of combined service to his country.
Douglas currently worked as a Sales Specialist and was the Safety Captain for Home Depot in Kirksville. Douglas was beloved by his coworkers and managers.
Douglas was a simple man. He enjoyed being a handyman for general construction projects, hunting and shooting guns. In his spare time, he enjoyed smoking meats for family BBQS and having productive conversations with his sons. Douglas enjoyed reminiscing with Justin of their military service as well as talking to Matthew about life. All three shared memorable conversations which brought joy to them. He also liked to spend time reading and doing research on things that were of interest to him. Most of all Douglas enjoyed time spent with family and especially the time spent with his grandchildren.
Douglas was a Christian by faith.
