Catherine "Lucille" Burroughs, 93, of Hannibal, MO passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, at Beth Haven Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Pastor Wes Tischer will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park.
Visitation will be held 10:30 AM until the time of the service Saturday at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Lucille was born on May 18, 1922 in New London, MO the daughter of John and Annie (Christ) Dryden.
Mrs. Burroughs was married to George Richard Burroughs for over 72 years they were united in marriage on March 18, 1942, in Hannibal, MO by the Rev. John Golden. He preceded her in death on January 24, 2015.
Survivors include one son, Gary R. Burroughs and wife Mikel Sue of Kansas City, MO; one daughter, Marilyn Summers of Center, MO; four grandchildren, Chris Burroughs (Rebecca) of Liberty, MO, Craig Burroughs (Sara) of St. Louis, MO, Jennifer Madore (Bill) of Center, MO and Julie Fox (Jason) of Kansas City, MO; ten great grandchildren, Briley, Dylan, Jenna, Hannah Addison and Carson Burroughs, Madison and Adrian Madore, Jacob and Mikayla Fox; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Mrs. Burroughs was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Dryden; one sister, Christine Dryden; and one son-in-law, Ted L. Summers.
Lucille graduated from Ilasco High School in the class of 1940. She went on to further her education at Hannibal-LaGrange College for one year.
Lucille was a member of Westside Christian Church, where she previously served as secretary. She was very talented at cooking and baking. She was known for her fried chicken and angel food cakes and pies. Lucille also enjoyed canning with George, reading magazines and sewing. George and Lucille were always helpful in lending a hand to family, friends and neighbors when asked for help.
Pallbearers will be Chris Burroughs, Craig Burroughs, Jason Fox, Bill Madore, Don Burroughs, Gene Dryden, Dylan Burroughs and Jacob Fox.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Ellison, Tom Stewart, Norman Tate, Brady Borrowman, Quintin Dryden, Travis Dryden and Mrs. Burroughs grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Memorial contribution may be made to the Ilasco Historical Preservation Society or Westside Christian Church, in care of Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
