Alma F. Powell, age 99, of Murrells Inlet, passed away peacefully Sunday August 14, 2022 at MUSC Medical Center in Charleston.
Alma was the youngest daughter of 11 children born to the late Otis Gibbons and Lera Watts Gibbons. She was born in Hannibal, MO where she lived most of her life before moving to Murrells Inlet in 2005. Alma and her husband, the late Thomas Wayne Powell, were avid fishermen, who having won several angler and fishing awards in Missouri, enjoyed fishing on the Mississippi river. In addition to her loving husband and parents, Alma is preceded in death by her three daughters, Jean, Joan and Jane, her son, Larry Wayne Powell and 10 siblings.
Survivors include her daughter, Connie J. Martin of Murrells Inlet; grandchildren, Bryan Hartley and his wife Effie of Myrtle Beach; Matt Hartley and his wife Tonya of Myrtle Beach, Rachel Edwards and her husband Bryan of Asheville, NC and 8 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was held 2:00 PM Thursday August 18, 2022 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City. Graveside service & burial will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, August 20, 2022, in the Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, MO.
