Woody was born on July 27, 1936, in Hannibal, MO the son of Willard K. and Mildred M. (Scott) St. Clair.
Woody was raised in New London, MO where he graduated from high school. During that time there he fell in love with the neighbor girl across the street, Wilma (aka Sis) Bangert. They were united in marriage on November 27, 1959, at St. John's Lutheran Church where he has been a member ever since.
They moved to Hannibal where he worked for Smith Funeral Home as an ambulance driver. His dream was to become a mortician; however the military had different plans, so Woody joined the National Guard from 1959 to 1965. In 1961, his career changed and he went to work for the Hannibal Board of Public Works as a Lineman. Woody served there for 30 years and retired as a Line Superintendent.
Woody and Sis have two children, Carla Selsor and husband David and Curt St. Clair and wife Becky. Carla and David gave them two grandchildren, Crystalyn Selsor (Mike Reading) and Cody Selsor and wife Stephanie. Crystalyn and Mike added one great grandson, Colton Reading. Cody from a previous marriage (Jess) gave them a great granddaughter, Riley Selsor and Cody with his wife Stephanie gave them another great granddaughter, Milah Selsor and a bonus great granddaughter, Mabrie Lay. Their son Curt and wife Becky gave Woody and Sis two grandchildren, Courtney Berghager and husband Levi and son Casey St. Clair and wife Kristen. Courtney and Levi gave them two great granddaughters, Maesyn and Maelee Berghager. Casey and Kristen added two more great granddaughters, Vaelyn and Vallie.
Woody had eight siblings, brothers, Don, Robert, and Darrel Wayne; sisters, Sandy, Anna Mae, Debbie, Mary Lou and Denice. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Don and Darrel Wayne.
Away from work, Woody's hobbies were raising horses with his daughter Carla. Later in life his son Curt introduced him to raising cattle. However, everyone knew his passion was for horses.
He was always there to help anyone in need. He was a member of the Mark Twain Emergency Squad, which he served the community of Hannibal back in the 70's and 80's. In 1988, Woody was elected in as the Ralls County Coroner. Woody honorably served Ralls County as Coroner for 20 years before his retirement in 2008.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the Angels of mercy who were by his side. The nursing staff at Hannibal Regional Med Tele Unit, especially Brendan Flowers and Cindy Forshey. He was also surrounded by similar Angels at Luther Manor Nursing Home, too numerous to name individually. Those in the support staff, nursing care and dietary. Woody claimed they have the best fried catfish he ever tasted. You all were a gift from God.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Luther Manor Nursing Home or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
