Wayne Raymond Linnenburger

April 2, 1932 — August 7, 2017

Wayne Raymond Linnenburger, 85, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 8:05 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2017, at Beth Haven Nursing Home. Graveside services with full military honors provided by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017, at Grand View Burial Park. Pastor Wes Gehrke will officiate. There will be no visitation held. The family is being served by the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel in Hannibal. Wayne was born on April 2, 1932, in Hannibal, MO, the son of Herbert A. and Bertha M. (Falkinburg) Linnenburger. Survivors include three brothers, Paul Linnenburger of New London, MO, Louis Linnenburger of Galesburg, IL, and Kenneth Linnenburger and wife Helen of New London, MO. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Mr. Linnenburger was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Lena Faye Linnenburger and Edna Fay Linnenburger. Mr. Linnenburger proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force. Wayne graduated from Hannibal High School and went on to further his education at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. During his college years, Wayne worked for a railroad as a fireman on a local steam engine. Upon graduation, he taught special education in the El Paso area. After retirement from teaching, Wayne moved back to Hannibal. Wayne was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55. He was an avid follower of swap meets, he enjoyed collecting and selling Model T parts, and tinkering on things around the house.
