Walter Eugene Gundling, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Hannibal, Mo. died Nov. 29, 2012 at his home, after a life long battle with lung disease. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel, Rev. Rebecca Dunger Peak and Rev. Allen Clark officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service, Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Mr. Gundling was born May 5, 1926 in Hannibal, Mo. to George Paul and Minnie Bell Frankum Gundling. He married Margery Carol Muehring, February 14, 1946 in New London, Mo. and she survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Deborah (Jon) Adams of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kristi (Greg) Moran and Rebekah (John) Flowers both of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Daniel Adams,Carl Adams, James (Brittany) Flowers and Sarah Flowers; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Gundling of Hannibal, Mo. and Art Gundling of LaFaria, Texas; seven nephews and two nieces. Preceding in death were his parents, brother Kenneth Gundling of Australia and infant daughter, Michal Christine Gundling. Walter was a retired industrial engineer. Later he worked as a courier for Hannibal Regional Hospital. He served in the military with the United States Air Force. Walter was a graduate of Hannibal High School, class of 1943. Walter was a member of Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary and Park United Methodist Church. He was a great lover of music, especially the Big Bands and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Memorials may be made to Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxilary or Park United Methodist Church in care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
