W. Leo Harrison, Sr., 97, of Hannibal, MO passed away peacefully Thursday, January 16, 2014. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 21. 2014 at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel. Pastor Donna Scott will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2013 at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
Leo was born August 31, 1916 in Shelbina, MO the son of Walter Lee and Kathryn (Parsons) Harrison. He married Mildred Cleo Jackson on April 27, 1937 in Shelbina, MO. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2010.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Lisa Harrison Latteman, Kansas City, MO, and Scott Howard Harrison (Gina), Kansas City, MO; granddaughter-in-law, Karla Harrison, New London, MO; four great-grandchildren, Tiffany Harrison Winstead (Adam) Greenville, SC, Kirste Harrison, Chicago, Lindsey Latteman, Milwaukee, and Ben Latteman, Sault Ste. Marie, MI; two step great-grandchildren, Laura Gordon Stewart (Chuck), Hannibal and Sarah Gordon, Nashville, TN.
Mr. Harrison was also preceded in death by his son, Leo Harrison, Jr., grandson Leo Harrison, III and grandson-in-law Jim Latteman.
Leo attended school at Shelbina and graduated in 1934. He attended Hannibal-LaGrange College and earned a degree in accounting. Leo was heavily involved in the family-owned farm implement business, Harrison Motor Co., from its beginning in 1931 until its close in 2000.
Mr. Harrison was an avid hunter, fisherman, and nationally known trapshooter. He started registering trap targets in 1951 and in 2006 retired from shooting. He registered over 300,000 clay targets. He was inducted into the Missouri Trapshooters Association Hall of Fame in 1986 subsequent to his induction into the Missouri Skeet Shooters Association Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association and the National Rifle Association. Leo was one of the founders of the Mississippi Valley Gun Club, now known as the Salt River Gun Range south of Hannibal. He enjoyed nothing more than sharing his love of outdoor shooting sports.
Leo served in several civic organizations including the Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, and was a Shriner. He also served on the Board of Directors for Hannibal National Bank from 1963 to 2000.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Latimer, B.W. (Doc) Sapp, Ed Keim, Dennis Keim, Steve Fuller and Adam Winstead.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Overstreet, Gene Zinn, Bob Overstreet, Karrol Hillebrand and Bob Burg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Trapshooting Association, Hannibal-LaGrange University, American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice, in care of Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
