Virginia Sue Martin, 91, of Hannibal, MO passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018, at her daughter's home in Birmingham, AL. A memorial service in honor of Mrs. Martin will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Hannibal. The Reverend Dawn-Victoria Mitchell will officiate. Private family burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family is being served by the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel in Hannibal. Virginia Sue was born on August 15, 1926, in Childress, TX the daughter of William A. and Winnie Mae (Davis) Stegall. Sue was united in marriage to John H. "Jack Martin on June 26, 1946. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2013. Survivors include three children, Jill Martin Smith and husband Bruce, John William Martin and wife Mary Jane, and William "Bill" Martin and wife Terry; six grandchildren, Liza Martin, Wes Martin and wife Shayna, Dorry Taylor and husband Joe, Lynne Martin, Lance Smith and wife Trina, and Mallory Wear and husband Ben; three great grandson, Eli Smith, Maggie Smith, and George Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Keith Stegall. Sue was an active member of the Hannibal Country Club where she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and socializing. She had a love for domestic animals and wildlife. Sue rescued numerous stray cats and was a supporter of the Northeast Missouri Humane Society and World Wildlife Fund. She also enjoyed observing birds, deer, foxes and coyotes traveling through her backyard, in which she was also excited to report these sightings with friends and family. Her biggest love was her family and the time they cherished together. Mrs. Martin was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Hannibal. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Missouri Humane Society or AVENUES, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
