Virginia (Ginny) Alberta Mae Maple

Virginia (Ginny) Alberta Mae Maple, 85, of Hannibal, passed away, Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 5:20 a.m. at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, at the First Christian Church. Rev. Steve Barker will officiate. Burial will be in Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Mrs. Maple was born May 13, 1927, in St. Louis, Mo. to James D. and Laura Belle Kilby Powell. She was united in marriage to Russell H. Maple, February 2, 1946, in Hannibal and he survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Terri J. Maple of Hannibal; a granddaughter, Veronica Maple Dryden of Hannibal; one sister, Dorthea (Harlan) Flagel, three brothers, Robert J. (Shelba) Powell, Darold Powell and Larry (Alvina) Powell. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Russell M. Maple and four brothers, Lloyd Powell, Jim Powell, Cliff Powell and Edwin (Pat) Powell. Virginia had worked at the International Shoe Company Rubber Plant and for 22 years she drove a school bus for Hannibal Public Schools. She was a 58 year Auxiliary Member of Emmette J. Shields Post 55, The American Legion. She loved to play Bingo and assisted the post in conducting the Bingo games. She and her husband also were active in R.S.V.P. and at one time belonged to 3 square dance clubs. Virginia was a member of the First Christian Church and she and her husband were faithful in attending the early Worship service for many years. Pallbearers will be Tom Givan, Mike Riney, Lyle Todd, Jim Barnes, Ralph Brinkley and Dennis Smith. Honorary Bearers will be Dave Peer, Erwin Givan, John Haden, Jess Ornelas, Bob Burditt, Ken Harr and Jim Miller. Memorials will be made to the Alzheimerâa
