Vina Marie Hayes

Vina Marie Hayes, 90, of Hannibal, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012 at 3:58 a.m. at Beth Haven Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tues., Feb. 28, 2012, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel, Rev. Jeff Anderson, officiating. Burial will be in Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of service Tues., Feb. 28, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Mrs. Hayes was born Dec. 18, 1921, in Marion County, Mo. to Mansur and Mary Doty Sellars. She married Maurice F. Hayes, Sept. 3, 1949 in Hannibal and he preceded her in death Dec. 1, 1984. Survivors include 3 children, Mansur Lee (Deanie) Samuel of Pueblo, Colo., Virginia Hayes (Ray) York and Maurice Eugene (Ruth Ann) Hayes, both of Hannibal; 9 grandchildren, Mansur Lee Samuel, Jr., Daniel Earnest (Fawn) Samuel, both of Pueblo, Colo., Lisa Ann Figuerio of North Carolina, Tracy J. (Moe) Atiland of Pueblo, Colo., Deborah Hayes (Mike) Moore , Jena Ann Hayes (David) Mosley and Kay Denise Hayes (Tracy) Rademan, Kellee York , all of Hannibal and Susan York (Chris) Wilson of Baton Rouge, La.; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Doris Collick of Detroit, Mich. and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her parents,a son, Elmer Dean Samuel, her twin sister, Veda Smith along with 3 other sisters, Viola Samuel, Sylvia Smith and Ruth Hunter. She was also preceded by 2 brothers, Marvin Sellars and Bill Sellars. Mrs. Hayes formerly worked at International Shoe Company in Hannibal. She later worked at Motorola in Quincy. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Fildelis Sunday School Class at the Church. She had been an active member of Emmette J. Shields Post #55, The American Legion Auxiliary. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Pallbearers will be Alex Smyser, Kyle Smyser, Robbie McLeod, John Moore, Tyler Mosley and David Mosley.
