Ruth Virginia Jurgens

May 21, 1925 — October 6, 2013

Ruth Virginia Jurgens, 88, of Hannibal, MO, died Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Hannibal Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 10, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church. Pastor Michael Stoerger will officiate. Burial will be at the Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday evening at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel in Hannibal. Mrs. Jurgens was born May 21, 1925 in Galena, KS, the daughter of Arch and Beulah (Harper) Sims. She married Carl Arnold Jurgens on June 2, 1946 in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death on November 17, 1985. Survivors include, two sons, Carl A. Jurgens, Jr. of Raleigh, NC and David L. Jurgens (Sharon) of Decatur, IL; five grandchildren, Clint Jurgens (Jennifer), Clayton Jurgens, Bobby Jurgens (Nancy), Chris Jurgens (Heidi), and Elizabeth Jurgens; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Sims Hufty of Paris, MO; one sister-in-law Alice Jurgens of Hannibal, MO; three nieces, Merrilyn Jurgens, Pat Jennings, and Joy Hufty Dodge; and two nephews, Bradly Hufty and Craig Hufty. Mrs. Jurgens was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister, Bernice Sims Adams. Ruth worked 35 years at Southwestern Bell Telephone before retirement. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she was a previous member of the bell choir. She also was a member of the Telephone Pioneer of America, Luther Manor Auxiliary, and Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Ruth enjoyed volunteering at various organizations, working the polls at elections, traveling, square dancing, and most of all, playing the slots on "the boats"A
