Rose L. Horton, 81, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 3:15 AM Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton, MO.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 9, 2016, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Pastor Ron Haye will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date in Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, IL.
Visitation in honor of Rose's life will be held 10:00 to 11:00 AM Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Rose was born on June 3, 1935, in Williamstown, MO. The daughter of Charles Elden and Rose Luetta (Doran) Ritter.
Mrs. Horton is survived by her seven children, Steve Horton, Marcia Torres (Mario), Rebecca Payman all of Broken Arrow, OK, Edward Horton (Sharon) of Glenwood, OK, Linda Stone and Sandra Drake both of Independence, MO, and Connie Horton of Minnesota City, MN; three sisters, Imogene Battles (Neal) of St. Peters, MO, Dorotheann Fenton of Quincy, IL and Marjorie Runyon (James) of Monroe City, MO; fifteen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Horton was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Hise and Rita Hinton, one son-in-law, Iraj Payman, three brothers-in-law, Bill Fenton, Buell Hise and Alfred Hinton.
Rose attended Keokuk High School. She had worked several years in sales in Independence, MO before retiring in 2004 and moving to Hannibal.
Rose was dedicated to her faith. She gave her life to Jesus at the age of fourteen at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Clark County, MO. She most recently was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hannibal, where she was active in her Sunday School Class and the Forever Young.
Rose enjoyed volunteering at Douglas Community Center. She also enjoyed doing water aerobics at the YMCA, sewing for her family and friends at Beth Haven Apartments, her flowers and she cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
