Roger Dale Nichols

Roger Dale Nichols, age 70, of Hull, IL passed away at 12:55 pm Friday, December 27, 2024, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

A visitation celebrating Roger's life will be held 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.

Cremation arrangements will follow the visitation.

Roger was born on November 3, 1954, in Hannibal, MO the son of John and Mary (Webster) Nichols.

He was united in marriage to Roberta Scranton on June 1, 2002, in Hannibal, MO.

Survivors include wife, Roberta Nichols of the home, two daughters, Cassie Nichols (Lee) (Andy Brown) of Palmyra, MO and Angela Utley (Donnie) of Hannibal, MO, stepson, Jason McArthur (Amy) of Hannibal, MO, stepdaughter, Nancy Crim of Barry, IL and sister, Joyce Yehle of Hannibal, MO.

Other survivors include numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a daughter, Candance Nichols and two brothers, Johnny Nichols and Lawrence Nichols.

Roger graduated from Hannibal High School and worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Ralls County Water District for 20 plus years before his retirement.

Roger was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriner's Club.  Roger was a true outdoorsman who found joy in hunting deer, turkey, bear, pheasant, and searching for mushrooms and arrowheads. He loved fishing and took great pride in building duck blinds and deer stands. Roger's passion for nature was matched by his love for his family; he cherished playing with his kids and grandkids and enjoyed spending time in his garden. His legacy is adventure, family, and a deep connection to the great outdoors.
