Rita V. Baltzer Gillett

Rita Virginia Baltzer Gillett, 93, of Hannibal, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Beth Haven Nursing Home. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2013,, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel, Rev. Tim Goodman, officiating. Burial will be in Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Friday, April 26, 2013, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Mrs. Gillett was born to Richard Warner and Eva Lee Dingle Baltzer, July 21, 1919 near Novelty, in Knox County, Mo. She married Joseph Rendlen Link, November 1, 1940. On September 11, 1973, she married Dr. Glen Hopkins Moore and he preceded her on March 26, 1982. On October 22, 1983 she married Rollie Eugene Gillett and he preceded her on April 18, 1992. Survivors include two nieces, Sherry Jo (Oscar) Hernandez of New London, Mo., Carol Davis of Hot Springs Village, Ak,; one nephew Richard S. (Tammy) Friend of Edgerton, Mn.; a step-son, Robert R. (Shirley) Gillett of Lake Stevens, Wash.; three great nieces, Rhonda, Lisa, Shelley and three great nephews, Scotty, Jeffrey, Joey and many great-great nieces and nephews. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Margaret Friend, two brothers, Gene Dingle Baltzer, and Richard Lewis Baltzer. Also preceding were sister-in-law, Josephine Baltzer and brother-in-law, Joseph Friend. Rita lived in St. Louis for many years and Perry, Mo. She returned to Hannibal where she was educated and lived during her childhood. She loved her family and many friends. She took pride in helping others and was a caregiver for her loving family when needed. She was a member of Fifth Street Baptist Church. Home was where the heart was among her many friends of years gone by. Rita loved traveling, playing cards and dancing. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Fifth Street Baptist Church in care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
