Richard Wayne DeLaPorte, 91, of Hannibal, MO passed away 5:22 PM Monday, June 16, 2014, at Hannibal Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, June 19, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel. Pastor Tom Day and Rev. Richard Epperson will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel. Mr. DeLaPorte was born September 16, 1922, in Hannibal, MO the son of Julius James and Edna Mae (Webster) DeLaPorte. He married Inez V. Harvey on July 31, 1942 in Hannibal and she preceded him in death on April 16, 1991. Richard later married Jewel Irene Goon on February 1, 1992 in Hannibal and she preceded him in death on January 13, 2008. Survivors include two sons, Larry W. DeLaPorte of Bartlesville, OK and Richard H. DeLaPorte (Anita) of Jacksonville, IL; one daughter, Nonda Clatt (Charles) of Monroe City, MO; two sisters, Virginia Davidson of Arnold, MO and Glenna Rothweiler of Festus, MO; one half sister, Donna Conrad of Hannibal, MO; eleven grandchildren; thirty two great grandchildren and twins on the way; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wives, Mr. DeLaPorte was preceded in death by four brothers, Don, Ed, Carl, and Kenny DeLaPorte, one sister, Mildred Ward and granddaughter, Deanne Renee Ruzynski. Richard graduated from Hannibal High School in the class on 1941. He worked as a life insurance salesman and later as an insurance broker for 41 years. Mr. DeLaPorte was a member of Oakwood Christian Church, where he was very instrumental in arranging and installing of the memorial stained glass windows that are in the church. Richard would often attend Salt River Christian Church on Sunday evenings. In the 1950's he attended Pilgrim Wesleyan Church. Mr. DeLaPorte was a past member of the Gideon's and Insurance Underwriters Association. He enjoyed setting in his yard listening to the birds and feeding the Albino Squirrel at Dairy Queen. Pallbearers will be Christopher Clatt, Kevin Clatt, Jerry Conrad, Mike Blan, Cody Blan and Dijon DeLaPorte. Memorials may be made to the Oakwood Christian Church, Hannibal Nutrition Center or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in care of Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
