Richard E. "Bud" Arnold, Sr., 83, of New London, Mo. passed away at 1:48 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2014, at his home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel, in Hannibal. Pastor Tom Day will officiate. Burial with full military honors provided by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55 will be in the Grand View Burial Park.
Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
Richard was born on January 3, 1931, in Hannibal, Mo. the son of William Harold and Barbara Ellen Bennett Arnold.
Bud married Fern A. Geist on September 4, 1955, in Hannibal, Mo. She survives him.
Other survivors include, four daughters, Ginger Ogle (Jeff) of Huntington, Mo., Shelley Tennyson (Ronald) of Hannibal, Mo., Renee Purol (Ronald) of Monroe City, Mo., and Renita Harrison (Tom) of New London, Mo; one son, Richard A. Arnold (Donna) of New London, Mo; one brother, William Dale Arnold of Chillicothe, Mo; one sister, Barbara Ann Bichon of Montrose, Co; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy and Jack Arnold; and one grandson, Jeffrey Bryan Ogle II.
Bud was a graduate of Hannibal High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Richard owned and operated the family business, W.H. Arnold Log & Lumber Company in Hannibal. He later worked as a rural mail carrier in the New London area. Richard was a member of the St. John's Masonic Lodge #28 AF&AM in Hannibal, Eastern Star, and past member of the NEMO Shrine Club. Mr. Arnold was a member of the First United Methodist in Hannibal where he was active in the Men's Club. He and Fern later moved to New London where they became members of the First Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon.
Mr. Arnold enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, wood working and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Bud will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Lucas Utterback, Jordan Ogle, Shae Harrison, Wayne Utterback, Nick Arnold, Trent Arnold, Chad Arnold and Adam Hopper.
