Rhonda Mae VanNice, age 54, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 7:02 pm Thursday, September 25, 2025, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday October 1, 2025, at Mission Hill Baptist Church in Palmyra, MO. Burial will be in the Palmyra Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation celebrating Rhonda’s life will be held 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Mission Hill Baptist Church in Palmyra, MO.

The family is being served by the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel of Hannibal.

Rhonda was born on October 30, 1970, in Kansas City, MO the daughter of Kenneth and Donna (Decker) Plumlee.

She was united in marriage to Greg VanNice on September 8, 2000, in Palmyra, MO. He survives her.

Survivors included her husband, Greg VanNice of Hannibal, MO; son, William VanNice of Hannibal, MO; three daughters, Leslie Orr (James) of Quincy, IL, Crystal Doil of Memphis, MO, Laura VanNice of Hannibal, MO; brother, Timothy Plumlee (Michelle) of Dixon, MO; mother-in-law, Joyce VanNice of Hannibal, MO three grandchildren, Emmit Orr, Trevor Orr, and Riley Doil.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. VanNice was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Edward Plumlee; sister, Mary Christine Plumlee, and father-in-law, Alton VanNice.

Rhonda was a proud member of Mission Hill Baptist Church in Palmyra, MO.

She was a woman whose warmth, creativity, and kindness touched everyone who knew her. She passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and handmade gifts that will be cherished for generations.

Rhonda had a deep love for all things handmade — she spent countless joyful hours crocheting, knitting, and crafting. Her home was often filled with the comforting aromas of fresh-baked bread and biscuits, a true testament to her love of cooking and sharing meals with others.

She found her greatest joy in spending time with her family and friends. Whether it was a quiet evening chatting around the table or an afternoon at a local musical event, Rhonda’s presence was always a light. She had a beautiful singing voice — music was one of the many ways she shared her heart with the world.

Rhonda dedicated her career to caring for children at His Kids Day Care and Preschool, where she nurtured countless young lives with patience, compassion, and a gentle sense of humor. Her impact on the families she worked with was immeasurable.

She will be remembered for her generosity, her creativity, and the quiet strength with which she loved those around her.

Pallbearers will be Emmit Orr, James Orr, Justin Allen, Dakota Damron, Jeremy Wright and Stanley Stephens

Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Rhonda’s surviving family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mission Hill Baptist Hill, in care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
