Paul "Fred" Frederick Manning, 68, of Hannibal, Mo. passed away at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Hannibal, Mo. Father Mike Quinn will officiate. Graveside inurnment with full Military Honors provided by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Palmyra, Mo. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church with a Prayer Service at 4:30 p.m. The family is being served by the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel in Hannibal. Fred was born March 1, 1946, in Hannibal, Mo., the son of Carroll Bailey and Effie Gladys (Chaney) Manning. He married Elizabeth Marie Baggett on October 18, 1997, in Hannibal, Mo. (Fred will always remain the best husband ever). Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Manning of the home; one son, Terry Manning (Amber) of St. Louis and their children Brittany Manning, Trenton Manning, Aaron Klocke, Seth Klocke and Maggie Manning; one sister, Nancy Jeffries (Bill) of Springfield, Ill; father and mother-in-law, Ken and Gloria Baggett of Palmyra, Mo; sister-in-law, Mary Kiefaber (Sherman); brother-in-law Mark Baggett; nieces, Kim Jeffries (Tom) and their children Logan and Maxwell, Lana Sovereign (David) and their children Sienna, Erica, Tyler and Brayden, Lindsey Justesen (Joe) and their child Jacob; nephews, Cody Baggett and Hunter Baggett. In addition to his parents, Mr. Manning was preceded in death by one brother, Christopher, one sister, Shirley, and brother-in-law, Ken Baggett, Jr. Fred graduated from Hannibal High School in 1964. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 1, 1968 and served thru October 18, 1970. He served his country during Vietnam in the CRIP 25th Division, where he received numerous decorations, medals and badges. (Please continue to pray for all those who are serving, have served and are still losing their lives due to the effects of war). Fred worked for Hannibal Carbide Tool for 40+ years. He enjoyed working with his hands and he could fix anything. He loved his job and his bosses, The Enanders. Gambling is where his heart is. Fred was the most respected man most of us have ever meet. He was honest and trust worthy and never asked anything from anyone. You could always count on Fred for anything. He never let anyone down. Fred has the most wonderful loyal family and friends anyone could ever ask for. Philippians 1:3-4 "I thank my God every time I remember you in my prayers for all of you!" Pallbearers will be Terry Manning, Trenton Manning, Bill Jeffries, Logan Jeffries, Ken Baggett, Mark Baggett, Hunter Baggett, Cody Baggett, Sherman Kiefaber, Joe Justesen and David Sovereign. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert "Bull" Horton, Kenny Locke, Doc Murphy, John Latta, Floyd Martin, Howard Buckley, Elmer Dapron, Troy Egbert, Chris Egbert, Aaron Klocke, Seth Klocke, Wayne Wilson, Dennis Fohey, Dan White, Ray Schneck, Mike Ward, Ron Ward, Harley Jones, Joe Couch and Mark Hedges. St. Paul in 2nd Timothy 4:7 spoke it well, Fred ran the good race, fought the good fight and he kept the faith. It is finally time for Fred to receive what he deserves and has wanted all of his life and that is simply - PEACE. Memorials may be made to the NEMO Humane Society or Animal Control Unit in Hannibal, in care of Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
