Mildred Ruth Serbin, 86, of New London, MO. passed away at 2:31 p.m. Monday, November 18, 2013 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013 at the New London First Christian Church, Pastor Tom Day will officiate. Burial will be in Barkley Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Smith Funeral Home and Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Mildred was born July 20, 1927 in Hannibal, Mo. the daughter of James W. and Pink Roland Settle. She married Joseph Costa Serbin on June 4, 1950 in Monroe City, Mo. He preceded her in death on July 13, 2009. Survivors include two sons, Stephen Keith Serbin of Rockville, MD and Dennis Craig Serbin of Germantown, MD; granddaughter, Jaime Serbin of Gathersburg, MD; special nieces and nephews, Bill and Iva Turner of Philadelphia, PA and Jim and Marilyn Settle of Fresno, CA; and several other nieces, nephews and other relatives in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Serbin was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Keith W. Settle, aunt and uncle Charles and Pearl Roland Conn. Mildred graduated from Monroe City High School in the class of 1945. She worked for the U.S. Department of Navy in Washington D.C., Chesapeake Patomac Telephone Company and later retired as a Dental Assistant. Mildred was a member of the New London First Christian Church. She served as an Elder of the church, Past President of C.W.F. and belonged to Rotary Ann's in Potomac, MD. Pallbearers will be Tim Flowerree, Tom Flowerree, Gaylord Winders, Larry Vaughn, Chris Misner, Russell Tobin and Mike Lanier. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dick Hamm, Don Schmitz and the C.W.F. Memorials can be made to the Human Society of Northeast Missouri, New London First Christian Church or the Northeast Missouri Sheltered Workshop, in care of Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
