Marguerite (Tyree) Darley

Marguerite Tyree Maple Darley, age 94, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 5:51 am Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Luther Manor Nursing Home in Hannibal, MO.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park.

Visitation celebrating Marguerite's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. until time of service.

Marguerite was born on October 14, 1930, in Moberly, Missouri to Charles and Irma (Riley) Tyree.

She was married to Francis David Maple in 1948.  Three children were born of the marriage, Dwayne, Teresa and Joy. They were divorced in 1961. She later married Leo W. Darley, Sr. on October 17, 1970.  He preceded her in death in June, 2001.

Survivors include one son, Dwayne E. Maple and daughter, Teresa Huffman of Hannibal, MO, step children Leo Darley, Jr. of Michigan, Terry W. Darley (Jayne), Kristie Darley, all of Hannibal, MO and sister-in-law Freda Hughes. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her close and devoted friend, Richard Turner, two brothers and spouse, Edward L. Tyree (Nadine) and Dennis Robert Tyree, three sisters and spouses, Juanita Ann Smith (Leon), Sandra Rauh (Glen), and Cheryl Kay Dowell, daughter, Joy S. Maple, step children, Vicki Darley, Donnie Darley and Bonnie Pipkin, grandsons, Derrick R. Robertson and Leslie (Les) R. Huston, step grandson, Jeffrey Huffman and son in law, Donald E. Huffman.

Mrs. Darley attended Rensselaer School, Monroe City High School and graduated from Hannibal High School. She enjoyed playing basketball and was elected Captain of the girls team at Rensselaer and Monroe City.

Marguerite loved music, dancing, writing poems, church activities, cooking and most of all, she loved and enjoyed her family.  She loved sharing memories of her life and there was always lots of laughter in her home. Mrs. Darley retired as Director of Communications from Hannibal Regional Hospital after thirty three years of service with the hospital system, twenty six of those years were at Levering Hospital, where she enjoyed her positions of Business Office Manager and Personnel Director.

Marguerite was a member of Mt. Zion Christian Church.

Pallbearers will be Marguerite's great grandsons, Ethan, Zachary and Luke Rucker, Brodie Robertson and Jackson Highfill. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-great grandsons, Myles Murphy and Asher Murphy.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion Christian Church, in care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
