Kenneth Eugene Sanders, 84, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Hannibal, passed away at his home June 18, 2012. A visitation will be held Thursday, June 21, at McGilley Antioch Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. There will be a visitation in Hannibal, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012, followed by Graveside Services at Big Creek Cemetery at Rensselaer, Mo. Rev. P. J. Southam will officiate and Emmette J. Shields Post #55, American Legion will provide full military honors. Kenneth was born June 23, 1927, in Hannibal, Mo. a son of Eldon and Sylvia Sanders.. He was employed by the C, B, & Q Railroad and Ford Motor Company as an electrician for over 50 years. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy, 121st Seabees and also was a Korean War veteran, serving aboard the USS Dixie-AD14. Kenneth was a member of Mystic Lodge #17, International Order of Odd Fellows in Hannibal, and a 3rd Degree Master Mason in Ralls Lodge #33 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, where he was a lifetime member. He was also a member of the Emmette J. Shields Post #55, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Civil Air Patrol, Cubmaster of Pack 357 and Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 304. Survivors include 3 sons; Ronald, Richard, and Wayne Sanders, a daughter, Katherine Smith; 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys F. Taylor Sanders. She died August 8, 2001. Casketbearers will be Chris Sanders, Sean Sanders, Kenny Sanders, Erik Smith, Aaron Gilbert and Bert Gallardo.
