Josephine B. McNabb, age 85, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 8:40 pm Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Pastor Tom Day will officiate. Burial will follow in the Grand View Burial Park.
Visitation celebrating Josephine's life will be held at 10:00 am until the time of service at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Josephine was born on October 17, 1938, in Hannibal, MO the daughter of Edmund and Virginia (Rife) Koch.
Josephine first married Joseph M. Gibbons and later married Rainey Max "Buzz" McNabb.
Survivors include son, Gary R. Gibbons and wife Astor of Hong Kong, China; brother, Gary Dean Koch and granddaughter, Lisa Whittaker. Also surviving are several cousins, nieces and nephews and numerous friends that she thought of as family.
In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph M. Gibbons, Sr., second husband, Rainey Max “Buzz” McNabb, son, Joseph Morris Gibbons, Jr., infant daughter, Teresa Kay Gibbons; brothers, Gerald Leroy Koch, Jerry Jay Koch and grandson, Joseph E. Gibbons.
Josephine started working at Underwood, which then changed to Pet, then Pillsbury and finally General Mills for thirty-three years before retiring in 2006. She was the founding member of the General Mills Retirement Club where she truly enjoyed catching up with old co-workers and enjoying the luncheons. In her earlier years, Josephine worked in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Ward as an OB nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital, she later worked at the shoe factory in Palmyra, MO
Josephine or "Mama Jo" as many called her, was known to be a hard worker, she found happiness in helping people and donating her time to charity organizations. She loved butterflies, daisies and her Shih Tzu doggie, Angel. She was excitable when it came to bad weather, had a unique sense of humor and loved to dress fashionable. Dancing with her friends while watching her son perform in the midwest and cooking for others were two of her favorite things to do. In recent years, she enjoyed her daily video chats with her son and daughter-in-law that resides in Asia, along with spending time with her family and many friends.
Josephine was a member of Oakwood Christian Church.
