Joseph Franklin Fry, 96, of Hannibal, Mo. passed away at 9:50 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2014, at Beth Haven Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel in Hannibal. Pastor Jim Woychuk will officiate. Burial with Full Military Honors by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be at Antioch Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
Joe was born on May 12, 1917 in Hannibal, Mo. the son of James William (Will) and Alice Catherine (Schultz) Fry.
He married Lorraine E. Steinman on January 24, 1970 in St. Louis, Mo. She survives him.
Survivors include his wife Lorraine; one brother, James "Jack" Fry (Cindy) and one sister Norma Jean Northcutt all of Hannibal, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Bernard Fry, Schultz Fry and Richard Fry, three sisters, Helen Gay, Caroline Shaw and Mary Alice Moretti.
Mr. Fry served his country in the Navy aboard the USS Iowa during WWII from 1942 to 1945. After the service Joe remained in California working as a Carpenter. In 1965 he returned to Hannibal working for Martin Construction until his retirement. In retirement Joe and Lorraine spent much of their time entertaining at nursing homes in the Hannibal area. They spent their winters in Mission, Tx., where they became quite involved in musical jam sessions at various RV Parks. Mr. Fry was a Christian by faith.
Memorials may be made to the Antioch Cemetery Association or Community Loving Care Hospice, in care of Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
