Joseph Carl Bush, 86, of Hannibal, Mo., went to be with the Lord at 10:10 a.m., March 14, 2013, at Luther Manor. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Clover Road Christian Church. Pastor Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park with full military honors provided by Emmette J. Shields Post 55, American Legion. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 19, from 12:30 p.m., until time of service at the church. Smith Funeral Home & chapel is in charge of arrangements. Joseph Carl Bush was born in New London. Mo., October 2, 1926, to Homer and Myrtle Bond Bush. He married Dorothy Garner on July 18, 1975, who preceded him in death on September 17, 2011. Other survivors include one daughter, Kate (Steve) Horowitz of Ellensburg, Washington; two step-daughters, Connie (Larry) Stephens and Faye (David) Bleigh both of Hannibal; one brother, Guy Bush of Arcadia, CA; one granddaughter, Joanna Horowitz of Seattle, WA; four step grandchildren, Michael Stephens, Sedalia, Stacy (George) Papachrisanthou, Millstadt, IL, Bridget Bleigh and Betsy (Jeremy) Divers, Hannibal; two great grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Papachrisanthou of Millstadt, IL. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Carl Wayne Bush, one sister, Lucille Bush, and two brothers, Ira Banks and John Robert Bush. Joe was a petty officer, second-class, in the navy during World War II. He served in Africa, Italy, Sicily and Normandy (1942-1945). He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad and was a conductor for the Rock Island Lines for 40 years while living in Moline, IL. After returning to Hannibal, Joe worked for the Hannibal Public School System in maintenance at the Middle School which he really enjoyed and made many new friends. He was a member of Clover Road Christian Church and the Harvester's Class, Emmette J. Shields Post #55, American Legion, life member of the VFW and National Rifle Association. Joe was a loving father and husband. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed telling stories of his experiences in World War II. He liked woodworking and would participate in various craft shows. He also loved camping, boating and fishing. Pallbearers will be Larry Stephens, David Bleigh, George Papachrisanthou, Richie Ferrel, Bob Parker and Dr. William Esicar.
