James Durward Sorrell

Frankford

James Durward Sorrell (J.D.), age 87, of Frankford, MO passed away at 10:35 am Friday, March 29, 2024, at Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana, MO.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, April 1, 2024, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.  Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Frankford.

Visitation will be held 1:00 pm until the time of the service Monday at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.

J.D. was born on September 5, 1936, in Hannibal, MO the son of Durward B. and Lillian V. (Epperson) Sorrell.

He was formerly married to Lillie Lou Rinker Sorrell on April 1, 1956.  To this union they had five daughters, Jamie Baker of Frankford, MO, Denise Anderson (Dennis) of New London, MO, Melissa Krueger of Wichita, KS, Angie Waddell (David) of Curryville, MO, and Leah Lorenson of Frankford, MO.  Eleven grandchildren, Brandon (Chantel) Baker, Jared (Paige) Baker, and Paige Nicole Baker, Jordan (Brittany) Anderson and Marissa Anderson, Megan (Kevin) Peters, Morgan (Justin) Nickleson, and Erin Krueger, Brett Waddell, Ashlee (Zach) Crader and Abbie Waddell, Ryan and Lillie Lorenson.  Thirteen great-grandchildren, Adisyn and Ainslee Baker, Jaidyn Heeres, Gerald and Allison Redmon, Braxton and Noah Baker, Olivia and Isabelle Anderson, Braedon Moss, Stella, Charlotte and Theodore Peters.

He was united in marriage to Clauda Joan Cash on February 27, 1987.  She survives him.  Also, two stepdaughters, Diane Bueler (Matt) of Hannibal, MO and Karen Clayton (Chuck) of Hannibal, MO; four step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, J.D. was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lavon Brown, two nieces, Glenine Childs and Lavonna Brown, son-in-law, Richard Baker, and three great-grandchildren, Ellie, Anna and Everly Baker.

J.D. was a member of the Frankford Assembly of God Church.  He graduated from Frankford High School in the class of 1954.  He honorably served his country in the Missouri National Guard for eight years.  J.D. worked his entire life farming and was a heavy equipment operator.

In earlier days, he enjoyed mushroom hunting, coon hunting and was an avid league bowler. He also enjoyed visiting with friends at the Shortline Station.

Speakers will be J.D.’s grandchildren Megan Peters, Jared Baker, and Ashlee Crader.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Baker, Jordan Anderson, Braedon Moss, Brett Waddell, Ryan Lorenson and Troy Blackwell.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Cemetery, in care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
