James M. "Buster" Fishback, Jr., 93, of Monroe City, MO formerly of Hannibal and La Belle, passed away on Monday, March 03, 2014 at Monroe City Manor.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Garner Funeral Home and Chapel in Monroe City, MO. Pastor Steve Goughnour will officiate. Burial with full military honors provided by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post 55 will follow at St. Judes Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Garner Funeral Home and Chapel with a Masonic service at 7:30 pm. The Smith Funeral Home and Chapel in Hannibal is in charge of arrangements.
James was born December 7, 1920 in Lewis County, MO the son James M. and Jesse O. (Glaves) Fishback, Sr. He married Roberta Bone on March 21, 1942 in La Belle, MO. She survives him.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Fishback of Monroe City, MO; one daughter, Penny Mudd and husband Nick of Monroe City, MO; one son, James R. Fishback and wife Janet of Washington, MO; four grandchildren, Jamie Mudd (Sabrina) , Michael Mudd all of Monroe City, MO, Tony Fishback (Christine), and Christen Fishback all of Grover, MO; seven great grandchildren, Tyler Fishback, Hannah Fishback, Seth Monroe, Caleb Monroe, Joshua Monroe, Gavin Mudd and Grady Mudd; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Fishback was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Elizabeth Fisch.
James graduated from La Belle High School in the class of 1938. He owned and operated Fishback Radio and TV in La Belle for several years. He went to work for MODOT in 1942 and retired as Maintenance Area Supervisor after 43 years in 1985. James served his country in the Army during WWII. He was a 68 year member of the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post 55. Mr. Fishback also was a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge #28 in Hannibal and past Master and 66 year member of the La Belle Lodge #222. James was an avid bowler in Hannibal and Palmyra. James and Roberta traveled the United States where he participated in numerous Men's Nationals Tournaments. For approximately 20 years he served as chaperone for his wife and daughter's bowling team driving them all over the State of MO to participate in the Women's Tournaments. He enjoyed gardening and doing handyman work. James was a member of the Monroe City Christian Church.
Pallbearers will be Michael Mudd, Jamie Mudd, Tony Fishback, Tyler Fishback, Seth Monroe and Bill Hamilton.
