James "Jim" D. Overstreet

James "Jim" D. Overstreet, 76, of Hannibal, Mo. passed away at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at his home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Pastor Tom Day will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2017, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Jim was born on February 25, 1941 in Hannibal, Mo. the son of James S. and Francis (Menge) Overstreet. He was united in marriage to Pat Ellison on October 4, 1963, in Hannibal, Mo. She survives him. Other survivors include one son, J.D. Overstreet and fiancé Penny Nesbitt of Hannibal, Mo.; three grandchildren, Carly Rosecrans, Sara Overstreet and Annie Overstreet all of Tampa, Fl.; two great grandchildren, Joe Costellana and Delilah Aurora Sue Lindsey; one great granddaughter on the way; and numerous friends and extended family. Mr. Overstreet was preceded in death by his parents. Jim graduated from McCooey High School in 1960. Upon graduation Jim operated the Mobile station along Mark Twain Avenue. He later went to work for Jim Light at Safety Lane. Jim and his wife Pat also operated C&H Distributing, Inc., which provides White Flyer clay targets to gun clubs throughout the Midwest. Along with C&H Distributing he also operated his own gun club with Leo Harrison III and Carroll Hildebrand, in Macon, Mo. Jim started shooting trap in 1950, in his father's sporting goods store and gun club. His tenure on the trap field started as a setter and later a puller. In 1956, he shot his first registered targets. Some of Jim's notable accomplishments over 50 years plus years were, he attended every Missouri State Shoot since his first one in 1956 and was named to the Men's Missouri State Team for 31 of those years, to date he has registered 162,875 singles, 148,925 handicap and 86,700 doubles targets, first person to break 100 x 100 doubles at the Midwest Grand in 1979, first person to break 100 x 100 doubles at the Missouri State Shoot, squad team that broke 500x500 in 1986 at the North Dakota Shoot, All American 1st Team in 2007 & 2008. Jim was also inducted into the Trap Shooting Hall of Fame in Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska. Jim was an avid outdoorsman, when not working or shooting trap, Jim could be found traveling around the world hunting exotic animals and fishing. Some of the countries that Jim had hunted and fished in were, Canada, Australia, Russia & Central America along with several states within the U.S. including Alaska. Mr. Overstreet also enjoyed a round of golf or bowling in his spare time. Jim was a Life Member of the ATA, Missouri Trapshooting Association, Kansas Trapshooting Association, Nebraska Sportsman's Shooting Association and is a Benefactor Member of the NRA. Additionally, he has served the Missouri Trapshooter's Association as an Alternate ATA Delegate. Mr. Overstreet was a Christian by faith. Pallbearers will be Eric Harvey, Kevin Thompson, Dave Wommack, Kevin Smith, Steve Fuller, and Ed Gibbons, Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Stephens, Lynn Kilpatrick, Kenny Ross, Butch Anderson, and Ronnie David. Memorial contributions may be made the NEMO Humane Society or Donor's Choice, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
