Howard E. Johnston, 92, of Hannibal, Mo. passed away at 1:23 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at his home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Fr. Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park.
Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 26, 2016, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel, with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m.
Howard was born on June 27, 1924, in Monroe City, Mo. the son of Ralph and Faye (Young) Johnston.
He was married to Alma Hudson on November 14, 1942 in Hannibal, Mo. at Blessed Sacrament Church. She survives him.
Other survivors include two grandchildren, Dawn Likes of Hannibal, Mo., and Greg Johnston (Debbie) of St. Louis, Mo., four great grandchildren, Kristen Frost, August Frost, Grace Johnston and Lily Johnston, daughter-in-law, Carole Johnston Henry, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by one son Chris Johnston, one daughter Penny Johnston Neff, one brother Ralph Johnston, Jr., and two sister, Phyllis Davidson and Mary Johnston.
Howard worked for Mobil Oil for 20 years. He had his own Bulk Plant and was a District Salesman. Howard then owned and operated Apple Auto Parts in Hannibal for 15 years located at 4th and Church.
Howard had a love for his family and cars. He owned several cars over the years but one car in particular, a 1954 Kaiser-Frazer that his father had owned at one time. Howard was able to track the car down by the VIN number and purchase it back. The Kiser has been in the family for 5 generations. Howard and his family took this car to several car shows and trips across the United States.
Howard was a member of the Mississippi Historical Automobile Club in Quincy, and the past President of the Kaiser-Frazer Owner's Club of America. Howard and his wife Alma enjoyed traveling across the United State and to several different countries. When not attending car shows Howard enjoyed fishing and playing pitch.
Mr. Johnston was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Pallbearers will be August Frost, Ken Jansen, Marty Aulbur, Kristen Frost, Lori Davidson, and Lisa Davidson-Neier.
Honorary pallbearers will be Howard's brothers-in-law.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Promise Foundation or the National Parkinson Foundation, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
