Ernest Calvin Couch

Ernest "Ernie" Calvin Couch, 84, of Hannibal, MO, passed away at 7:10 PM Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at his home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, October 11, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel in Hannibal. Pastor David Scott will officiate. Burial with full military honors provided the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55 will be in the Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, October 10, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel. Ernest was born May 10, 1930, in Hannibal, MO the son of Ernest C. and Margaret (Foster) Couch, Sr. Mr. Couch married JoAnn Hull on June 25, 1951, in Hannibal, MO. She preceded him in death on January 24, 2007. Survivors include one daughter, Karen Ann Kroll and husband Henry of Flower Mound, TX; two grandsons, Erich Kroll and wife Lindsay of Napa, CA and Marc Kroll and wife Amanda of Austin, TX; and four great granddaughters, Sophia, Madeline, Leah and Mackenzie. Mr. Couch was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Ernest graduated from Hannibal High School in the class of 1948. Shortly after graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country for over 21 years. After retiring from the Navy he went to work as an electrician for Atlantic-Richfield Pipeline and retired after 20 years. Mr. Couch was a lifetime member of Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55 and VFW Post 11241. He enjoyed traveling, RVing, going on cruises, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Ernie was a member of Arch United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Erich Kroll, Marc Kroll, Henry Kroll, R.V. Skip Wells, Bob Moyers and Oran Sharp. Memorials may be made to Arch United Methodist Church, in care of Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
