Emory D. Smashey, Sr.

Emory D. Smashey, Sr., age 90, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 9:38 pm Friday, June 26, 2020, at Willow Care Center in Hannibal.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Thursday, July 2, 2020, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel in Hannibal. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park.

Visitation celebrating Emory's Life will be held 5:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.

Emory was born on August 26, 1929, in Hannibal, MO the son of Russell and Lula Bell (Moore) Smashey.

He was united in marriage to Loretta J. Rausch in 1947, in Hannibal, MO. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2011.

Survivors include his children, Emory Smashey, Jr. (Cathy) of Hannibal, Linda Bramblett (Melvin) of Hannibal, Loretta Davis of Hannibal, and Deneta Sneed of Raytown, MO; thirteen grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Smashey was preceded in death by his brothers, Wallace, Francis, Russell, David and Clarence; sisters, Levena Dickensheets and Miriam Nixon; two grandsons, Terrance and Billy Smashey, Sr.

Mr. Smashey worked as an over the road truck driver for ABF Trucking before retirement.

Away from work, Emory enjoyed raising cattle, gardening and enjoying life on the farm. Mr. Smashey was a simple man that cherished the simple things in life. He loved visiting with his family, especially his grandchildren. When time allowed he enjoyed playing Solitaire.

Mr. Smashey was a member of the Teamsters Union, Moose Lodge in his younger years and Son's of the American Legion.

Mr. Smashey was a Christian by faith.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Smashey, Emory Smashey, III, Phillip Smashey, Derek Smashey, Matt Bramblett, Arron Bramblett, Drew Davis, Nathan Henry, and Danny Powell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hannibal Nutrition Center, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
