Edgar A. "Ed" Martin, 88, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 25, 2014, at Beth Haven Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel. Burial with full military honors provided by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55 will be in the Grand View Burial Park.
Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
Edgar was born September 1, 1926, in Mendon, IL the son of W.H. and Gertrude P. (Butler) Martin.
Mr. Martin married Betty F. Rigg on July 12, 1953, in Hannibal, MO. She survives him.
Other survivors include two sons, Daniel L. Martin (Carole) and David A. Martin (David Hardy); two grandchildren, Cara Copple and Matthew Martin; great granddaughter, Virginia Copple.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by one sister and brother in infancy.
Edgar was a graduate of Hannibal High School, Hannibal LaGrange College and Washington University in St. Louis, MO. He was employed for 38 years by Gardner Denver as an Accountant in Quincy, IL. Ed served his country in the Army, where he played trumpet in the USO Band traveling around Europe entertaining the troops after WWII. Mr. Martin was a member of Park United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Park United Methodist Church Choir, in care of Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
