E. LeVon Griffen, 86, of Hannibal, MO, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2012, at Luther Manor Nursing Center. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel . Rev. Walter Griffen and Rev. Helen McFarland will officiate. Burial will be in Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2012, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. E. LeVon Griffen was born in Oakwood, Mo., on October 3, 1925, a daughter of Samuel Walter Murrell, Sr. and Eleanore Johnston Murrell. She was married on January 8, 1944, in Blackstone, Va., to Danny J. Griffen. He survives. Other survivors include four children, Danny Joe (Katherine) Griffen Jr., of Bettendorf, Ia., Dorothy (David W.) Dexheimer, Richard M. (Jane) Griffen and Amy (Doug) Merrell, all of Hannibal. Eight grandchildren also survive, Jennifer (Jason) Specht, Laura (Patrick) Garrels, Melissa (Mike) Swaringim, Sara (Nathan) Briggs, Joseph Griffen, Jessica (Ben) Spurgeon, Andrew (Christina) Merrell and Kathleen Merrell; as well as 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. One brother, Sam (Catherine) Murrell, Jr. also survives. LeVon was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister. LeVon was a graduate of Beaumont High School in St. Louis and had worked as a receptionist for Dr. W. A. Smith in Hannibal and also worked as a designer for Griffenâa
