Douglas (Doug) John Gregonis

Douglas (Doug) John Gregonis, 75, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 4:06 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Grand View Burial Park. Rev. Eric Carlson will officiate. The family is being served by the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Doug was born on February 18, 1943, in Elgin, Ill. the son of John and Josephine (Riotto) Gregonis. He was united in marriage to Janet Broemmer on May 17, 1969, in Hannibal, MO. She survives him. Other survivors include two sons, Aaron Gregonis and Justin Gregonis and wife Jaime; sisters and brothers-in-law, Fred and Carol Broemmer, Donald and Connie Broemmer and Barbara Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gregonis was preceded in death by his parents. Doug graduated from Geneva High School in 1961, he went on to further his education at Chicago Barber School. Doug worked as a barber for over 55 years. He made many friendships with his customers over those years. When not working, Doug enjoyed walking in the park, where he loved to stop and visit with people and their pets. Doug loved animals and never met an animal he wouldn't stop to pet. He will also be missed by his two cats "Cali" and "Lucy". Mr. Gregonis was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed trips to Wrigley Field to cheer on his Cubbies. Doug's biggest love was the time spent with his family. Doug was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug's loving and caring customers and friends he has cherished over the years. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or the Northeast Missouri Humane Society, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
