Charles Eugene Van Os, 82, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014, at University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, Mo.
Graveside services with full
military honors will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2014, at Thomas H. Brown Cemetery in Oak Grove, Mo. Andrew Edwards will officiate.
Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel in Hannibal, Mo.
The family is being served by the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
Charley was born April 27, 1932, in Knox City, Mo, to William G and Anna Robinson Van Os. They moved to Williamstown, Mo., when Charley was one year old. He attended Williamstown school and graduated with the Class of 1950. He was employed with the Missouri State Highway Department for almost forty years with thirty four years working as Highway Maintenance Supervisor, at the Monticello facility.
Mr. Van Os was married in 1954 to Rovene Pearl in Canton, Mo. and they later divorced. He later married Nona May Brown Yates on June 17, 1967. She survives him.
Charley served two years in the U.S. Army with the 617th FA BN, Headquarters Battery, in Ft. Still, Ok, as a fire control weapons repairman.
Charley was a member of the Church of Christ in Hannibal, Mo.
Survivors include his wife Nona May and children, Karen Shaw (George), Linda Monson (Dennis), Donna Diaco (Louis), Joy Young, Clint Yates, Steve Yates, and son-in-law, Miles Richie. Grandchildren, Lisa Weeks (Jason), Danny Thomas, Craig Monson, Jeremy Young, Sommer Young, and Brittney Yates. Great Grandchildren, Morgan, Ashlyn and Hayden Weeks, Julia, Savanna, Alexa, and Spencer Monson, Coby Keegan and Tierney Young, Seth Warning, and Kaydense, Briley, and Zander Ozbourne and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is one brother, William A. (Bill) Van Os, Sr. (Betty).
Charley was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother in 1929, John M. Van Os, one sister, Wilma Roberson (John), one infant grandson, Cole A. Yates and one daughter, Nona Richie
