Carolyn Marie (Hughes) Brummer Carter, 61, of Shelbyville, Mo. formerly of Hannibal, Mo. passed away at 10:16 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel in Hannibal. The Rev. Dewayne Larenson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Emden Memorial Gardens in Emden, Mo.
Visitation will be held 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Carolyn was born October 14, 1952, in Jacksonville, IL the daughter of Guy Burl and Lillian Katherine (Dennis) Hughes. She married Vince Brummer on June 28, 1975, and he preceded her in death on June 30, 1996. Carolyn later married Elzy Carter on October 14, 2000, and he preceded her in death in April of 2003.
Survivors include a very special friend, Harold Smallwood of the home; two daughters, Michell Gann (Jay) of Shelbyville, Mo and Nora Tournear (Cris) of Emerson, Mo; one sister, Linda Brummer (Lester) of Monroe City, Mo; one brother, Bob Hughes (Chrissy) of Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Debbie Hughes of Philadelphia, Mo; twelve grandchildren, Wesley, Mike and Jaynee Kissee, Sarah Gann, Blake Kribble, Vincent and Amber Brummer, Alexis, Summer and Hunter Little and Merena and Gabriel Tournear; two great grandchildren, Kennedy and Addison; two nephews, James Cox and Terry Brummer (Cindy); six nieces, Sylvia Waters (Jon), Brittany Lugena (Nick), Gina Laine, Angie Carroll (Joe), Jessie Miller (Darrell) and Kimberly Hughes; and several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and two husbands, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by a great nephew and a great niece.
Carolyn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Emden, Mo. She enjoyed her flowers and spending time with her family, especially spoiling her grandchildren the most.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Kissee, Michael Kissee, Vincent Brummer, Cris Tournear, Jonathan Waters and James Cox.
