Carolyn Kay (Atkinson) Mueller, age 78, of Hannibal, MO passed away at 7:45 pm Friday, February 28, 2025, at Beth Haven Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Trinity Episcopal Church. Rev. Susan Nanny will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park.
Visitation celebrating Carolyn's life will be held at 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm Tuesday March 4, 2025, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Carolyn was born on October 15, 1946, in Mason City, IA the daughter of George Atkinson and Laura (Tank) Atkinson.
She was united in marriage to E. William "Bill" Mueller on June 8, 1969, in Mason City, IA. He preceded her in death on December 8, 2015.
Survivors include two daughters, Monica Clayton (Will) of New London, MO and Lesley Sims (Larry) of O'Fallon, MO, one sister Susan Prescher; four grandchildren Luke Sims, Lydia Sims, Emma Clayton and Eli Clayton and her niece and nephew Nicole Hanson and Bryan Prescher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one daughter Rhonda Kay Mueller in 1981.
Carolyn graduated from Mason City High School and went on to further her education at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO and Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State) earning her Masters Degree in education.
Carolyn was a profound third grade teacher at Stowell Elementary from 1980 until her retirement in 2001.
Carolyn was a dedicated member of the Trinity Episcopal Church. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Chapter BR.
Carolyn cherished her time spent with her grandchildren and found joy in her visits to the YMCA. She had a passion for solving crosswords and puzzles and loved watching her daughters play softball. Traveling was one of her favorite activities, and she was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Her vibrant spirit and the happiness she brought to those around her will be deeply missed.
Pallbearers will be Larry Sims, Will Clayton, Luke Sims, Eli Clayton, Emma Clayton and Lydia Sims.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, in care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
