Betty Jean Hallows

Betty Jean Hallows, 77, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away at 12:11 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2015, at her home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel. Betty was born November 28, 1937, in Hannibal, Mo. the daughter of George Robert and Jessie Mary (Perkins) Williams, Jr. Mrs. Hallows was first married to Dave Clark. She later married Mark Hallows in 1982 and he preceded her in death on March 11, 2004. Survivors include one son, David Gregory "Droop" Clark (B.J.) of New London, Mo; three daughters, Terri Wade (Scot), Lisa Gordley, and Lori Tischer (Darell) all of Hannibal, Mo; one step-son, Carl Hallows and family of Texas; two brothers, George Robert Williams III (Sharon), and Tommy Edwin Williams all of New London, Mo; four sisters, Mary Anne Shackelford (Jack) of Independence, Mo, Patsy Lou Bergmann (Harold) of Mission, Tx, Nancy Latisha Hess (Terry) of Hannibal, Mo, and Helen Sue Perkins (Bill) of Hannibal, Mo; eleven grandchildren, Joshua and Aaron (Laurie) Clark, Seth and Shay Wade, Alaina Gordley, Jessica Gordon (Johnny), Jalissa Blue, Jace, Sarah, Brittany and Megan Tischer; five great grandchildren, Summer, Aiden, Piper, and Mya Clark, Jackson Gordon and twins expected in April; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Hallows was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Greg Gordley. Betty graduated from Ilasco High School in 1955, where she was an outstanding basketball player and was awarded a plaque for her performance. She reconnected a friendship with her teammates known as the "Fab Five." Betty previously worked at F&M Bank, Standard Printing and State Farm for Bill Cunningham, Sr. She retired from the State of Missouri as Deputy Circuit Clerk in Marion County. Mrs. Hallows was an avid seamstress and crafter, she owned Betty's Baskets and More and enjoyed attending craft fairs with her cousin, Barb Williams. When she wasn't sewing she enjoyed spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and especially the little great grandchildren. She loved writing stories about her growing up years and was published in the Ilasco newsletter many times. She also enjoyed working in her yard with her grandkids. She was a very generous and loving Granny who will be missed greatly. Betty was a member of Ilasco Area Historical Preservation Society and Hannibal Arts and Crafts Guild and she attended the Solid Rock Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Josh Clark, Aaron Clark, Seth Wade, Shay Wade, Johnny Gordon, and Jace Tischer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ilasco Area Historical Preservation Society, in care of Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
