Alma Beatrice Hunt Ritter, 87, of Hannibal, Missouri, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Luther Manor Nursing Center in Hannibal. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 16, 2017, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hannibal. Pastor Michael Stoerger will officiate. A private family burial will be held at a later time at Grand View Burial Park. The family is being served by the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Mrs. Ritter was born October 7, 1929 in Hannibal to Howard and Ruth Presler Hunt. She was married to Ben Howard Ritter in Hannibal on February 24, 1952. Survivors include sons Mark Ritter and wife Patti of Acworth, Georgia; Jeffery Ritter of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Samuel Ritter and wife Debbie of Wentzville, Missouri; and Andrew Ritter and wife Kathy of Dublin, Ohio; and daughter Gretchen Ritter and husband Gene Di Russo of Glen Allen, Virginia; and grandchildren Ian Ritter, Steven Ritter, Emily Ritter-Aguiar, Amy Ritter, Kelsey Ritter Kveen, and Ben Ritter; and sister Dorothy Hahn of Hannibal. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Mrs. Ritter attended public schools in Hannibal and graduated from Hannibal High School in 1947. She attended MacMurray College and graduated from Gem City Business College and from Millikin University. She worked as a secretary in Quincy, Illinois and in Fairbanks, Alaska. She taught English in public schools in Decatur, Illinois for nineteen years. While living in Decatur Mrs. Ritter was active in P.E.O. Chapter IF, Delta Kappa Gamma Society and Pilgrim Lutheran Church. After retiring to Hannibal she was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter BR, Woman's Club, St. John's Lutheran Church, Luther Manor Auxiliary, and was a volunteer worker at the Douglas Community Services Thrift Shop. Memorials may be made to Luther Manor Retirement and Nursing Center or the St. John's Lutheran Church, in care of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
