Natalie Evelyn (Yager) Mercado, 88, of St. Charles, Mo. formerly of Quincy, Ill. passed away at 7:40 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016, at SSM Health St. Joseph in St. Charles, Mo.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2016, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel, in Hannibal, Mo. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will follow in the Quincy Memorial Park in Quincy, Ill.
Visitation will be held 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Mrs. Mercado was born on March 8, 1928, in Quincy, Ill the daughter of Paul and Ada (Croft) Yager.
She was married to Gilbert Mercado on March 13, 1946, in Kansas City, Ks. He preceded her in death on November 21, 1973.
Survivors include two sons, Victor Mercado and wife Luobov of Parish, Fl., and Eric Mercado of St. Clair, Mo; two daughters, Pamela Archer of Clearwater, Fl., and Marsha Norton and husband Mark of St. Charles, Mo; fifteen grandchildren and twenty nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Mercado was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Mercado, one daughter, Janet Mercado, two brothers and one sister.
Natalie worked as an LPN at St. Mary's Hospital and St. Vincent's Home in Quincy and various hospitals and nursing centers around the St. Louis area.
Mrs. Mercado enjoyed shopping in her younger years and writing poetry. She also enjoyed attending church, singing gospel songs and spreading the word of the Lord. Mrs. Mercado's favorite quote was "I Love the Treasures in My House."
Natalie was baptized in the Episcopal Church at a young age.
