Karen Heskett Obituary

Karen Ruth Ketsenburg Heskett, 72, of Hannibal, Mo. passed away at 3:08 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the home of her brother and sister in law, Jerry and Connie Ketsenburg.

A Memorial Celebration in honor of Karen will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015, at the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. The Rev. Tom Hufty will officiate.

In accordance with Karen's wishes, there will be no visitation held and burial will be held at a later date.

Karen was born on Christmas day in 1942, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Russell Fredrick and Sophia Mae (Robinson) Ketsenburg.

She married Andrew "Andy" Heskett on September 5, 1981, at Alameda Naval Base in Oakland, Ca. He survives her.

Other survivors include, one brother, Jerry Ketsenburg and wife Connie of New London, Mo.; two nieces, Debbie Schwer and Samantha Kazmer (Rick); two nephews, Jody Ketsenburg (Lisa) and Ryan McCulloch (Melissa); four great nieces, Rachel Schwer, Hannah Schwer, Sarah Schwer and Adilene McCulloch; five great nephews, Zach Schwer, Jacob Schwer (Alicia), Matthew Schwer, Josh Ketsenburg (Alison) and Caleb Ketsenburg; and two great-great nieces, Maci Ketsenburg and Autum Schwer.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Heskett was preceded in death by one nephew-in-law, Mike Schwer.

Karen graduated from Mark Twain High School with the class of 1960. She went on to further her education at Hannibal-LaGrange College in Hannibal, Missouri and graduated in 1962 with an Associate's Degree in Business.

Karen was the co-owner of Storr's Appliance Store during the 1970's and greatly enjoyed her time managing the business. She also worked as an account manager for GMAC during her years in California and as a bookkeeper during her semi-retirement in Hannibal.

Mrs. Heskett was very active in the King's Daughters where she held various positions both locally and at the state and national level. She enjoyed taking care of her flowers in her back yard as well as spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Heskett was a member of Fifth Street Baptist Church since returning to the area from California.

Memorial contributions may be made in Karen's name to the King's Daughters Home in Mexico, Mo., in care of the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
